Rich in Nutrients
Natural Yoghurt contains some of nearly every nutrient that your body needs. It’s known to contain a lot of calcium, a mineral necessary for healthy teeth and bones. Just one cup provides 49% of your daily calcium needs. It is also high in B vitamins, particularly vitamin B12 and riboflavin, which may protect against heart disease.
One cup also provides 38% of your daily need for phosphorus, 12% for magnesium and 18% potassium. These minerals are essential for several biological processes, such as regulating blood pressure, metabolism and bone health.
High in Protein
Natural yoghurt provides an impressive amount of protein. Protein has been shown to support metabolism by increasing your energy expenditure, or the number of calories that you burn throughout the day. Getting enough protein is also important for appetite regulation, as it increases the production of hormones that signal fullness.
Promote weight loss
Yoghurt may help you reach your ideal weight by promoting abdominal fat loss. A study published in the April 2005 issue of “International Journal of Obesity” found that diets that included daily consumption of natural yoghurt for 12 weeks helped obese participants lose weight without losing lean body mass.
Cancer prevention
Natural Yoghurt may protect against breast cancer, according to a study that appeared in the June 2012 issue of the ‘Journal of Clinical Immunology”.
Protects against Osteoporosis
All vitamins and minerals that are found in yoghurt are especially helpful in preventing osteoporosis, a condition characterised by weakening of the bones – which is seen quite common in the elderly. However, research shows that consuming at least three servings of dairy foods such as yoghurt on a daily basis may help preserve bone mass and strength.
